Remember, it is a double definition (DD) for both the greatest and a footballer’s name.

Thanks all of you for the help. I always thought that this answer was two separate words, 3-4. I suppose therefore it can be both this and one word.

I’ve got 12a, but why is it a spoonerism?

Usual euphemism for a "revolutionary".

I thought spoonerism meant putting the last letter first and the first letter last?

Ni, it's the sounds. The first letter of the first sound and of the second sound are transposed.

"You have hissed all my mystery lessons. Leave on the first town drain!"
or the most famous one, in which the whole sounds are transposed:
"Kinkering kongs their titles take".

Only just got round to doing this, but I really quite enjoyed it - fewer anagrams than usual and a good mix of answers.

PS I feel a bit of a hypocrite complaining about anagrams - when I'm doing a really difficult puzzle they are the first thing I look for:-)

Just an anagram, I think, though I didn't bother to write it out.
