For 12a you need to go back a few centuries. For 3d it’s more than a promise imho.

Either I am getting smarter or Everyman is getting easier as this was a 20 minute quickie this morning

If it is a player from Ulster that liked to drink a fair bit then this make my 15d spectacularly wrong! I have B?Y?E?F as the across clues, which means one or more is not right. Thanks Chrise for the hint.
