Thanks malcolm. I had guessed that. Sorry to be picky, though; the clue doesn't really work, as the two top Rome Football clubs are Lazio and A S RomA...

Exactly right, lumen, I remember ducking/shuddering as the spears crashed through the walls. Must have been an interesting bit of stage management! My mother was SM for an amateur company, we used to source things from junk shops.
I think the Japanese one was another Coriolanus, but I can't remember. At one point there was a parade of people holding tennis racquets at the back of the stage. Not good.
I remember being surprised at Coriolanus exhorting people to Keep their teeth clean .

For those of you still unacquainted with the Bard and all his works, I can fully recommend Philomena Cunk's masterly program interviewing experts on the subject. You will come away a happier and more enlightened person. Glad to say it is available at the following link:

Just to let Brendan know, and anyone else interested, that re posts #37 and 38, the answer has been given as Henry IV Part Three, but there is no such play. That is why the clue seemed especially poor, as the setter apparently believed there was.
(Clue at post #2.)
