I just love the flower garden ones, but I think they may be WSJ rather than Harpers.

Thanks Rosalind, but I'd be useless at anything to do with gardening. There's not much I can do in my city flat although I do (or rather did, it's recently died) have a bonsai tree.

I've been looking back over previous puzzles to see if any 'leap off the page', so to speak, and noticed that I have in fact done a Harpers before. To start with I'm looking back at ones that initiated a lot of comments.

Hoho Brendan, the flower garden puzles have nothing whatever to do with flowers, except the grid looks very vaguely like a bunch of them!
The words are all 6 letters long, arranged in interlocking circles which are numbered. However, you don't know which direction the words fit into the circles, nor where they start.
I have nearly finished Foursomes except so far cannot do 19 ac or 30 ac. I expect these might be proper names.
I really liked 23 dn when I got it! Thank goodness for the Almonds and Raisins trilogy, from which almost all my knowledge of that religion ccomes.

Hi Rosalind, that puzzle sounds excellent - is there a link for it?

Neither 19a or 30a are proper names.

19a definition is "system for the record" and is a straight anagram (It is an unusual word, at least to me)

30 definition is "house" and is the starters/initial letters of 3 of the words from the clue inside a 4 letter word meaning "hockey goal" (I think this usage is more well known in the USA but it is a very common word)

brendan. all the previous Harpers and Wall Street Journal puzzles are on the forum.

Both appear on this forum courtesy of syzygy.

Just search for Harpers and you will see all of them.

Same thing with WSJ.

You should also look into crossword.org.uk puzzles. Each month a new puzzle appears usually a couple of days before the new month starts.

They do have 2 puzzles on their website now.

Hi Sunray,

I just did the WSJ puzzle (Cyclists) you provided the link for and really enjoyed it - some great clues.

Unfortunately my printer's just run out of ink and I'm not sure if it's worth sending off for refills as there might not be anyone at the other end to fill the order! So if I want to anymore I'll need to draw out the grid on a piece of paper - oh well, it could be worse:-)

Thanks again

Thanks sunray, I should have thought of that.

That's give-up-itis, Brendan (smiley). Where's your fighting spirit? (grin). Amazon is still working (like the Royal Mail now, they leave parcels by your door and don't ring). I got a package of absolutely necessary facecream from them yesterday!

But of course, I nearly gave up Foursomes. I see syzygy said they were always fun (grin again).
