This is just what's need to occupy the mind during a time of isolation.

Thanks syzygy & sunray, I do like this format. Perhaps me but a tad tougher than normal (no bad thing) or perhaps just me being this side of the pond where some of the parsing would be obvious over there or just me.
Some really delightful surfaces and I'm only mentioning a few, those that ended up in 7a, 12a, 5d & 15d.
I thought 15a, 20d & 26d all worthy of a *.

ginge, I agree with you. some very clever clues.
Also a bit more challenging when you have to figure out where the answers go in the grid.

The two 12-letter answers with the same fourth letter helped start the grid fill.

7d was also clever.

Very nice puzzle. In 25a, though, there seems to be an extra letter in the fodder. Am I seeing it wrong?

Finding this tough going with only about a third of the clues solved and none of them placed yet.

In the second batch of 4 clues, does one of them use the acronym SE around another 2 letter acronym?

No, Brendan. Two of those four begin with S though- unless I'm mistaken.

I was trying to make the God of love fit in but realised it was wrong when I got 3 of the 12 letter clues along with their placement in the grid. As Sunray point out, once you have the 2 words with the same 4th letter, things very quickly fall in to place. That's not to say I've finished, I still have about a dozen clues left to solve.

@25a - I'm seeing it the other way where there's 1 letter too few with a 'T' missing from the fodder?

That was excellent. So many great clues, but 15a, 12a, 11a and 20d deserve a special mention.
