I'm intrigued now, Lilith. You've had me staring at the shape, but I'm blowed if I can see its relevance.

I have completed the grid too, and have been staring at it until I have gone spare.

I am looking for relevant letters in a TH shape, or have I totally list the plot?

I seriously need help and to be released from this!

Lilith, a while after I posted I had an idea, looked at the grid again, and noticed what you are referring to. It didn't jump out at first because of the orientation. That definitely improves the endgame for me, and the preamble is accurate after all, but I still think aspects of the puzzle are unnecessarily confusing and convoluted, in particular the expansion of a seven-letter name into two words beginning the list of words from down clues.

Slugabed, the letters TH are the letters removed from seven across clues. The common designation from the down clues (a letter and a number) will teall you which letter to look at in those seven across clues to get the whole word, which ends in TH and tells you to do something with TH in the clues to make them vanish. Then all seven letters of that word must vanish from the grid.

Silly me! It's obvious when you see it. Just need the correct direction of travel. Can't believe that I completed this without seeing the shape. Thanks Lilith and Murky.
