I have the extra letters now.
Now have to decipher those seemingly non-connected words.

I now see the full stop after the first 4, sunray - not a typo after all, my mistake.

That's all you really need for a search (but the puzzle's title provides a big nudge).

Perhaps I've misunderstood one or two elements in this puzzle, but my impression is that it's rather contrived, convoluted and ultimately a bit messy.

It's not clear to me whether the designation is a letter or a letter followed by a number. If the latter I don't see the relevance of the first word, the abbreviation for which is BY.

The preamble asks solvers to make "what is described under the grid" disappear, whereas, as far as I can see, the letters of the word following the designation must disappear if the grid is to lose 32 letters and retain real words. That is not the same thing at all. "What is described" is an aircraft.

Finally the letters to be deleted are just randomly spread throught the grid. That's the messy bit referred to in my opening paragraph.

Murky, you need Bel as the designation plus the next 4 letters to form the first of the 3 themed items. I had to Google it to confirm the letter plus number IATA designation.

I also agree that the wording in the preamble about the disappearance is a little confusing as it relates to the Word but not the Designation.

I don't agree that the letters to delete are randomly distributed. If you highlight them rather than deleting them then a relevent block is revealed. I find the preamble OK.
