I cannot scan 1d either. K could be from kilobytes but where does beheaded come into it, what happened to the B in KB, and which two letters are hidden?

Laertes, K (just K) for 'a unit of 1024 words, bytes or bits' is in Chambers..

I just bumbled through this filling the grid as I went. Now I have a full grid and no real idea what to do next. Like another solver ealier in the thread, other than BELARUS and VISA, I can't see a coherent message.

You need the word after 'Belarus' and the word before 'visa' to give 2 (identical) parts - the word in the middle gives a 3rd.

INNING - 'Pub' replaces the first letter 'g(rand') of 'ging' after the iv is dropped.

...sorry - you also need the 3 letters of the country before the word before 'visa'.

I have 7 for Belarus. Then missing words and then 9, 4. 4 being Visa.
What are the lengths of the words inbetween?

sunray, you need 4 after Belarus, then a 10 letter word, then a 3 letter country (abbrev) then a 12 letter word (this starts with a common 3 letter prefix).

...that's 3+12+4 making up the visa (I don't understand your two 4s on the end - typo?).
