As a child, stories of cops and robbers often featured the "club" in 25 across.
It was never a club, it was always soft, usually a casing of some sort, filled with sand or something similar - what Americans would call a sap.

Stuck on last one in: 9a 'Turn back to discuss tackle" (4)

?K?T assuming crossers are right I can only see SKIT or SKAT but can't parse either

A turn on stage could be a "skit".
Back to discus"s" is "s".
Tackle could be "kit", as in sports gear.
Skit.
