I'm wondering if you've got 14,1d mixed up. The first letter is 5 and the second 4..

2d goes with 23d.

Thanks Brendan

I may well have confused them on the forum. I've found the number of linked clues confusing.

I have now got 7ac - thanks for your hint and I have got 2, 23d.

But 14 1 eludes me. Is he or she on Radio 4? I have ??O?K ?O?? or is it not aan actual person.

I understand the donkey in 13ac, but still haven't got the full answer.

Hi Roof, regards 14d,1d -

It's not the name of a particular individual, more a type opinionated person on the radio (I consider it more often used in America)

For 13a - Think of a 3 letter word for Jack/Donkey and add three letters that would make it (her? or any noun a female and hence a 'mate'.

Thanks again Brendan

I finally got 14,1. Not a broadcast polemicist as I think of them.

That gave me 9ac.

I had the three letter donkey so just needed the ending. Thanks for your help. It is the answer I thought it was.

Just 25ac to go...Is it a Club or a Mark? I can find a reference to club that would fit, but can't parse the first part.

I have ?O?N?S?

Glad to help Roof.

Re: 25a if you just Google 'King Mark' it should give you the answer.

Thanks Brendan

Your hint has given me an answer, which fits. I can't parse it, but I'm sure it must be right.

Thanks for all your help. Like you I am finding Paul more difficult these days.

Hi Jazzgirl and Brendan,
I read the Guardian through the digital (subscription )Guardian app on an iPad.. Recently, it just changed by itself to a new version which is not as good as the old version. The crosswords in this new version did not have setters’ names ( now changed) and on Saturday I inadvertently pressed “reveal this” and saw an answer (fat thumb syndrome!) . I wrote to Guardian to point this out. They have since corrected this but today’s Everyman has the same fault!
BTW the crosswords on line are still free.
I read your posts regularly on this forum, it is so exciting to have you reply!

Hi Mangoban
Thanks for the explanation. I use the free online version on iPad where there is no chance of seeing answers unexpectedly. The Guardian has often been known as the Grauniad and errors are all too frequent.
