I wish they had given the total number of cells to be highlighted in the final grid. I can see two (irrelevant) names using one “analogy” (one admittedly an Italian short form not given in the BRB), but I can’t imagine that is what is required.

Ahhh, could well be, yes, numerical accuracy or otherwise, notwithstanding! But also the current "get ready for" ads / propaganda might have the same shape, if you squint.

Candlestick, go back to woodlouse's hint on the last page, and imagine an innumerate right hand flag and a "single constituent part" for the left hand one. The puzzle is in 2 mutually exclusive halves, if you like.

In which case the grid is a tad argumentative?

I think it may have stumbled into politics, if it is a flag mash-up!

If I have the two names right, one of them is not hidden, and neither of them is a counterpart to the name revealed in the modified clashing cells. The two names I was looking for do total seven letters to match the clash cells. They are there but not in any analogous or even consistent pattern, so probably accidents of grid construction.

I rather agree with an early comment on the other site. After a Magpie puzzle on the same theme I could have done without yet another reminder of this on-going nightmare. I groaned when the theme emerged.

I agree the finish is somewhat unsatisfactory. Normally when you get to the end of a listener you know you’ve finished. With this one I have something that may be right but it seems odd. If it is flags neither of them work properly, the two names are actually three names, one of them isnt hidden and describing the pattern as analogous is stretching it beyond what I would consider reasonable.

Course I could have the wrong answer and there’s a brilliant solution that ticks all the boxes, but judging by the comments so far that seems unlikely.

Quite a quick finish for this one, some easy, some hard clues, but very satisfying, and topical. Can’t seem to get away from this topic. TV, radio, and now the Listener, but a much more enjoyable experience.
Can anyone explain the wordplay for 37 please.

Principally lowland = L. Venter = tum (t is extra). And lowland venter also defines (Scottish chimney)
