Hi chris,

Here's my alternative clue again for 6d, but broken up a bit:

One hundred + rake mixed = floorboard noise

For 19A, the RT compiler often uses "loud" to mean "sounds like" so the composer sounds like he is of "finish" nationality.

For 21A the "flight" is not an escape but a means of reaching another floor in a building.

Hi All, many thanks for the help - my brain's almost back to normal now! Don't know why I didn't think of Vaughan - he's from my early TV watching era..
Karen, it almost seems more than it's worth winning the dvd player - hope it arrives soon, so you can enjoy the fruits of your labour!!
Thanks, too, John, for your help - it always amazes me how people can think of other cryptic clues to assist existing ones..
Here's to this week's puzzle
Regards
Chris

6d is very ambiguous: like some others posting here I see several possibilities. As a musician, "sound sound sound" can make a 3-note chord that fits _r_a_

Yes indeed, a difficult clue, but rather clever on reflection. I assumed that the second & third "sound"s meant the answer was onomatopoeic and put in the noise a frog makes. However this thread made me realise the I had the wrong vowel as the middle letter and the second "sound" was a synonym for a small river and the third "sound" meant that the answer was a homophone of that word.
