A theme a few regulars will no doubt be big fans of.

It's an excellent one.

Some very tough clues, a couple of which I thought were a bit iffy presumably in the bid to make them scan. Zero ambiguity in the endgame (hurrah!), but it helped to keep a close tally on the entries to each category.

I can imagine one forum-ite would quite like last week's motoring miscreant to go the way of some of those here - hope you got things sorted Planks.

Yes s_pugh, I have harboured thoughts to that effect about the 'gentleman' responsible! Luckily I am insured against such eventualities.

I am enjoying this one, I've got the theme but am currently struggling slightly with the SW corner. I also don't fully understand 24d, can anyone confirm that it ends with n or d? Thanks

I went with the latter Planks - funnily enough that was the main iffy one I alluded to. I think it suffered from making it scan, but I parsed it by having Ed under King, then cleared (up).

Thanks s_pugh, I thought that was more likely.

Presumably the two thirds figure mentioned means that Burnet only manages to help 3 of the 9 escape entirely from the grid, but 6 have to undergo the ministrations of "The Widow". Strange how the normally clued down entry only includes a woman (or two).
