muraria - thanks. I have the 16 clashes resolved (very neat!) and that's where I'm stuck. I know the entries for the other two entities, but I can't fathom out who they are. Rather than give too much away here, would you be willing to lift the veil a bit to mrbaddie@btinternet.com?
I'd welcome the hidden surname (can't find any of the obvious ones) and what goes in the middle. I'm being very thick today.

I have motto (both versions) and the theme. It’s what to do with the 16 clashing squares! And highlighting the group.
All day yesterday I was sure there was a royal connection...choice of two famous parts.

Lumen,
You need to choose one letter from each of the sixteen clashes to spell out the group, which you have to highlight. If you have the motto, Google it and you should get the group.
