I have a full grid, the year and the place. But I cannot begin to think what remark might have been made at the event. To my mind it could be just about anything, despite staring at the grid for most of this afternoon.

the archaic starting word mentioned earlier is 2 letters and starts in the bottom left.....

rotate the letters, as per the theme, until they are in (almost) the diametrically opposite cell

... sorted the letter change now ....

Help with the middle cell please....

I could be wrong, kirky, because I don't understand a comment about putting them in the diametrically opposite cell, made above. I put one over the other to form a symbol that you would see at this place, using red and blue ink.

Ha! Yes, well at least he's managed to get off the infite loop of the Circle Line. I do wonder if the timing of the last three puzzles is deliberate!?
