sunray - 'rail' is a bird (4 letter word for impertinence + IN = 'live' + 3 letter word for 'rubber' material).

the 'women' are HENS

5 letter word for a 'piece' of something around K (+ R = 'take' at the end)
the answer could be prefaced with 'city_'

'call' = PUT

4th = D

Heavy hint needed for final B clue. Also can someone confirm the chronicler to be four letters beginning with o?

...should be 'call on' = PUT - i thought it was too obscure a definition to offer a direct synonym (are direct answers ok?)

For those clues for which hint is impossible, I think a direct answer is OK.
