I have two other answers. The answers are one letter longer than grid entry, after eliminating the additional letter in word play.

Does this mean more than one letter goes in some cells?

Hi sunray, when you have cold solved quite a few you'll notice 1 letter appearing (sometimes more than once in cases where the grid length is more than 1 cell shorter than the answer) in all answers.

Very slow progress for me.
Out of 9 letter word play, you drop one and get the answer. For Grid entry, you drop another.
So now two letters are dropped for 7 letter grid entry. Which extra one to keep?

A hint on 1a would help me start inputting 1d, 2d, 3d.

1a. Sign could be Pisces but why Sip for boat?
