I couldn't work out the connection between the three groups (one word of which I later discovered to be wrong), so found the star and then the film and worked back from there. It's a pity that the star is split in two.

I can't see how 26a works. I can only assume that 'lost' is an unintended misprint for 'left'.

Thanks for that, bobbycollins. I chuckled when I solved that clue, it took me longer than it should have!

Re 26a I think lost if fine for 'l' if you think football scores (Played, Won, Lost, Drawn)

I hadn’t thought of that but it’s not in Chambers under L.

Doesn’t really matter as answer is obvious.

Still baffled by the RH down blank. I had this as BALLOT, which like two of the other unclueds could go before BOX. Which didn't give me a connection with the film title. I now see that it should be B-L-FT. I can only get this to be BY LEFT, which could be an instruction to a MARINE I suppose. Am I miles off?

Nelson, it's Be Left -fitting with two other unclued answers, one long, one short.

Thanks Malone. I thought I already had a set of three for that particular 'interpretation' of the title. Bit of a rethink needed!

Is the unclued 1a continue which seems to be the only word that fits, but doesn’t chime with the theme?
