I have completed the grid and have loads of extra letters to make the 3 word phrase but apart from one 11 letter word that I think is relevant am really stuck! Can anyone help please?

Qesue, the three words are made up of the missing letters from the seven symmetrically placed answers.

Are there two possible words , both proper nouns, that can be entered in 33a ?

Are some of the six 4 letter words top right and bottom left ones that are 'seriously' altered?

A further tip for smallest interval at 1a would help too.

Smallest interval is a punctuation mark.

Using Chambers, I've got two possible entries for 23a!
And....
Having got the phrase, are the other "mistakes" meant to give us anything?

All of the across entries after amendment still have their last letter which helps with 23a and one other entry.

Yes the combination of removed letters from the more significant mistakes should lead you to the phrase.
