Doh! And me a classicist. Thanks. Can't parse 25 or 45. Time to throw in the towel?

25ac: “Oggin” is apparently navy slang for the sea.

45dn: port is what you drink. “Reach”, in the sense of “gain”, gives a three-letter word, plus E for European. First letter is a clash.

I meant 25dn in previous post. Autocorrect preferred “ogling” to “oggin”.

Very straightforward when you know (but I couldn't do it)......

You need a four-letter word for “safe”, beginning with S, and move the S to the bottom. The second letter of the answer is a clash - it’s T in the final grid but not in the answer to 5dn. The answer is an old word for “practices”, similar to a more modern word.
