Likewise. Would never have finished this without the many and varied hints from here. Very satisfactory conclusion indeed.

I have just returned from a few days away without my usual crossword bibles and am way behind with 4492. By all accounts it is a very good puzzle and I would like to be able to make further progress before I am distracted by 4493.

At the moment I am trying to understand the references to "wild summer flowers". Should I be replacing these letters in the grid or am I looking for concealed names of flowers?

Thanks again to those Forum contributors who answered my plea for a copy of last weekend's Inquisitor.

As per usual when I send a message I have a sort of PDM. In this case perhaps I am looking for the letters in "summer flowers"? I feel very dense.

Also catching up, just finished, another excellent puzzle as many others have commented. Can’t see the wordplay for 44d. I have an old word for a cathedral, but don’t understand the 16th century last judgement reference. Anyone help? Thanks

If you look up dome in Chambers it is the same as Spenser’s doom which is defined amongst other things as a picture of the Last Judgement.

I'm also working abroad and trying to finish this without any aids. I am in the process of catching all the Bs and Ms but can't for the life of me find two of the letter replacements: R and A, to be replaced by N and E. Help would be very much appreciated as I too have enjoyed this chase.

Orientfan - I have good news and bad news... the good news is the A and E couplet is at 3d. The bad news is there is no R and N couplet. The R is replaced in 1d and the N is the replacement in 48a. Hope this helps!

Try again - the R is replaced in 40d and the N is the replacement in 48a.
