Tomsdad, my experience was similar - though mine was started off by seeing some of the removed words and linking them to the ????. That led to the phrase, which led to the symbol....

Just to say, I'm a child of the 90s and recognised the symbol. Though at first I thought it was leading to a superhero's symbol, with the letters being the theme song!

Styled, he was on TV in the 60s. Same theme tune.

Another pretty "meh" Inquisitor that didn't repay the slog of fitting it all together.

The word deletions are barely related to the theme, the deleted letter...well, OK it's in Chambers but it's so loose as to be tangential.

And the slogan is presumably 4,3,3 but since we have absolutely zero clue to it beyond "it's 10 letters", who could say?

Inquisitor desperately needs a new editor and some proper quality control.

My slogan is 3, 3, 4.

I didn't get all the word deletions, but enough of them. I didn't find this that much of a slog!

I've only just come back to this and still need help with some clues, which may have an extra word.
5A Remote island could become boring.
7A Those at the margins about to abandon lives.
19A Group of plants stocking anonymous shell business with source of rubber.
Also, could anyone give me some tips as to filling in the grid ? I have the obvious top and bottom across and top right and left down, and the long across in the middle, but I have never done a grid of this sort before, and am rather lost !
Thanks.

Hi Samovar,

7a anagram of REMOTE and IS (island). Not sure about 19a myself.

Getting the "Close-fitting garment" clue would be a boost for me.

5. Just an anagram - of 'remote' + an abbreviation, leading to a synonym for 'boring',dull.
7 A seven letter word for 'lives' (verb) drops a usual abbreviation for 'about'. The result is 'those at the margins'.

The close fitting garment is old fashioned - it could go with 'hose'. The 'makes removing jacket' means we've to take off the first and last letters in 'makes'.

19 The definition is 'group' of plants. It's just anonymous (abbrev), business, abbrev, with the 'source of rubber' inside. Shell was superfluous.
