Thanks Chrise and Mamya I'd assumed the anagram, just couldn't solve it. I assumed I was looking for famous people, now I know it's only men and confined to Europe. I'd also parsed 14ac, but never heard of Lome. I should have looked it up, but I'm disillusioned with this setter.

I never know whether to give clues or answers - have got in bother with both.

Keep plugging away.

I wouldn't normally give answers for a Prize, but I didn't think that this travesty deserved any respect!

I'd be grateful for a strong hint on 12A, my last one:

I assume the middle is os(ordinary seaman)? The famous man completely eludes me. Insidentally, the r comes from a famous priest which might be wrong as I haven't parsed it yet.

"Jack" is easier than "OS".

Both "OS" and "R" are wrong. Think "Ben" for the solution and "cricket" for leg.
