A and C do both start with E, but they don't cross. The common starting letter for the 6 letter crosser is S, I think (I've discarded the puzzle now)

They both begin with E, but are not placed bottom right. If you mean 22a/d, those clues begin with S.

I've finished and was happy with it (I think!).
My A is bottom left not top right down as advised.
If my answers fit, what have I done wrong?

Same as me, rossim. We've started with the Qs the wrong way round, hence got the "incorrect" solution. I assume your C is across, rather than down, as it should be.

Thanks Chris
Yes my C is across. Oh dear, and I was so pleased with myself!
I'll have to print another grid but it shouldn't take long as I've solved all the clues. I still don't really understand why it's incorrect. Probably something to do with my poor spacial awareness.

Hi rossim
It says in the preamble that there are two possible solutions, but two clues show which is correct. One of these is the C, which only really works as a down clue. I'm still not convinced which the other one is, although there is a "reversal" referred to in one (I forget which) that should be in an across answer.
