If the r is right in 30ac, is my answer of redcaps right? I can't think of anything else that fits R?D?A?S.

Yes: US porters at stations are so called. And in this case both paired clues have unclued consecutive letters.

I thought that might be the case, but no amount of googling confirmed it. I also wasn't expecting the consecutive letters.

It waz a particularly tricksy crossword

Still can't get it and it is the last clue for my wife and I. We have T_N_H_N and even adding THAN cannot get anything with MNO in either direction. Cannot get anything if the 3rd letter is wrong either. Have we got the right letters?
