Elle

You know yourself that you can't watch them every second. Accidents do happen, but luckily this time the consequences were not too bad. They'll always lock the car in future. Have you been able to speak to your grandson on the phone? ...and how did I guess it was a boy?!

I don't recommend strong coffee. It'll keep you awake. I'd open a bottle!

Could you manage to visit them tomorrow, Elle?
That would be ideal if you could.
And you could give them a right telling off face to face!
The wee lad is safe. That is the main thing!
I am certain Mum and Dad will be mortified at what has happened, but it has turned out OK.
Did you get a cuppa?

Sorry to hear what has happened Elle. I've only just popped in and seen this. Rusty and Rossim have given good advice. I did something almost as bad at the age of 2 and a half. I got away with cuts and bruises and was very shaken. Dad put a warning in the local paper for other children not to play with door handles.

Hi, Rusty!
No, I'm afraid we won't be able to visit them tomorrow, as it's too far for my husband to drive there and back in one day - he doesn't like to drive very far these days and of course, as you know, I can't drive. and we can't stay overnight because of the animals.
But I'll speak to our grandson tomorrow and I'm sure I'll feel better after that!
(I might have a few bridges to mend...... I perhaps said more than was wise...... but it was the shock and worry........)
Yes, I had a drink of coffee, thank you.
Thanks very much for listening.....

rossim, thank you so much for your concern. It's really nice of you. and much appreciated!

Of course you said more than was wise.
Perfectly understandable.
And nothing that a few family hugs won't put right!
Yes, phone tomorrow.
It will make everyone feel better!

Oh Elle, that's horrible but at least he is OK and the car is only money (as my dad said when I trashed both a gatepost and a bike while learning to drive. The bike was parked).
We're all guilty of forgetfulness and can't keep eyes on children all the time. I drank some dilute bleach once and another time, it was thought, ate some open safety pins. Only when they didn't show on an X-ray did anyone ask me what I'd done with them. I demonstrated posting one down the plug hole in the kitchen sink.
Just apologise profusely if you did overstep the mark, Elle. Few can resist a sincere apology.

Ros, thanks, yes, I'm now feeling guilty. I really can't remember quite what I DID say - hope it wasn't too harsh. His parents must have been as shocked as we were.

Don't worry, Elle, you were in shock. They probably won't remember what you said, either!

Rusty,
Goodness, what a day this has turned out to be!
All evening, we've both been having flashes of nightmare scenarios as to what COULD have happened! Thank God it didn't! I hope we don't have follow up nightmares tonight....
And now I'm feeling so guilty that I was too harsh on my poor daughter. She and her husband must have been as shocked as we were...well, much more of course, really, as they were there in situ......
Roll on tomorrow when we can talk and hopefully put things right......I did send a text.....
Anyway, tomorrow is another day!
