Good morning, Elle!
It is hot up here, too!
Yes, I see the Diamond League is scheduled for this morning.
(Check out the Nike green vests!)
I have no plans.
I have finished my puzzle.
Was held up on two clues for a while until the penny dropped.
("The penny dropped", where did that come from?)
I have Le Tour on just now, there is a three man break up the road, but a long way to the finish.
Should be one for the sprinters, perhaps.
Not a day for chores, Elle, take it easy!

Hi, Rusty!
Well, it would have helped had I recorded the right channel, wouldn't it?!
I just sat down to watch (or so I thought!) the Lausanne DL , only to discover that I had recorded BBC1, instead of BBC2!
That is what comes of putting "good intentions " such as the chores, first!
Grrrh!
Now.....according to Brewers, "the penny dropped" is allied to penny -slot machines....when nothing "worked" until the penny had dropped!
I hope you are enjoying Le Tour......
I am going to watch "live" tennis...then at least I can't mess that up!

Hello, Elle!
Oh dear! You and your senior moments!
It's the weekend. I'd leave the chores until Monday?
You can get the Lausanne races on YouTube if they are not scheduled for BBC.
I imagined that would be where the penny dropped came from, but I can't really see the connection between sudden realisation and the penny dropping?
Yes, I have Le Tour on.
No crosswinds to speak of, great weather in France, too!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, it was dumb of me to record the wrong BBC channel!
Re the penny dropping.......compare the sudden working of the machine "when the penny dropped" to the sudden working of the mind (realisation)?
It sounds fine to me?
But it is really too hot for cogent thought!
Mindless absorption of the tennis - while flaked out on the sofa - is all I can cope with!
I'm drinking what seems like gallons of water!

Good afternoon, Elle!
Yes, I suppose "penny dropped" is fair enough.
Hope your tennis is going well.
I have been watching Le Tour.
A win for Fernando Gaviria and QuickStep today.
Peter Sagan was second.
I shall watch the golf and football now.
Keep drinking water, it is good for you!

Hi, Rusty!
I am glad you have been enjoying Le tour......it is good that there is so much sport for us to watch whilst this heatwave continues!
Well, the tennis continues to offer up surprises.....
My "bet" to win the Ladies' Singles title, Simona Halep - the World No One - has just been beaten by Su-wei Hsieh!
And "beaten" is indeed the operative word!
Simona played well...but was simply just out-played by her opponent!
I watched Juan -Martin del Potro win over the Frenchman, Benoit Paire.
That match provided some histrionics on the part of the Frenchman as at one point he yelled at the Umpire and wanted to have him removed from the court!
He also shouted to the spectators ...and hit his racket against his seat so hard that the seat jumped up and down!
All of this yelling was in rapid French, and no one seemed to know what it was all about?
There had been no calls in his disfavour..........
The commentators admitted that they could not understand it.
It did put del Potro off his own game for a little while, but fortunately he recovered and won easily!
I was rather surprised that the offending player was not penalised in some way, though?
It was very bad form.
Rafa is through in three straight sets!
Kyle Edmund to play Novak Djokovic soon......

Hello, Elle!
There are tantrums in many sports.
I remember McEnroe ranting away when fortune did not favour him.
Halep is out?
Another seed bites the dust!
I hope Edmund plays well.

Many years ago I got a class entirely on my side when - me having a bad hair day - one said "You look just like John McEnroe, sir". Without missing a beat, I replied "You cannot be serious!"

Hi, Rusty!
Hi, Rusty!
True.......and look how well John McEnroe has turned out!
But he was always a likeable "villain"?
The crowd loved to "hate" him!
Whereas this guy was obnoxious.......as were players like Ilie Nastase?
A piece of good news - in my book anyway - Angie Kerber beat Naomi Osaka in three straight sets.......
I'd thought that might be a difficult match.
Right, I'm going to wash my hair...then dry it whilst watching Kyle and Novak!

Hello, Chris !
Have you read John McEnroe's autobiography ?
There are two volumes..."Serious" and "But Seriously".
Although as yet I have only read the first.
I can recommend it ......I thoroughly enjoyed it!
It was amusing and forthright........he certainly called a spade a shovel.......rather than a digging implement!

Hi Elle and Rusty (and Chris)

Very Very hot here as everywhere I think - breeze reduced and
it is a hot air blowing anyhow!

BenoƮt Paire is renowned to be a 'head strong' if that is the
term - It is far from being the first time he gets obnoxious on court.

He said himself in an interview that the moment he steps onto
a court, his character seems to change (he is normally a nice guy)
and he does not know why.
Being in court 'gets on his nerves' apparently, and particularly
dislike Wimbledon! Well, if he does not enjoy it, why does he play?
