Elle, it is bad manners to fall asleep when being told a tale!

What was the name of this Irish Comedian who often made jokes about the Pope and Religion, who drunk (real stuff) on stage while sitting on a stool? Simply cannot remember !

Yet his diction was so good that he was the first British comic I understood and appreciated - afterwards I got to like the Two Ronnies, Jasper Carrot etc - but NOT Benny Hill ! As for Mr Beans, he is very popular in France - no need to understand the language.

Coming late to this, as I've been busy for most of the day, and have been attempting to catch up with the Athletics this evening....

Jazzy, good to see you about again (didn't see you yesterday?)Hope things are looking up a bit for you?

Pigale, your English is brilliant - no matter that you sometimes find some things difficult- poetry can be difficult at the best of times......
......but I have to say that personally I cannot stand Billy c
Connolly!

Rusty, thank you for the explanation about William McG - I have now read some of his poems and they are TERRIBLE!

Of course, Elle, I was forgetting the athletics.
I endorse your remarks to Jazzgirl, too!
I liked Connolly when he was a folk singer.
But as a foul-mouthed comedian, no.
I worked with guys every bit as funny.
So, Elle, William was not up to much, eh?
And whatever failings Queen Victoria may or may not have had, she was a dab hand at sussing out demented doggerel merchants!
