Hi, Rusty!
We have rain again!
Very dismal.
I knew the college clue: Magdalene College, Cambridge ( whereas Magdalen College, Oxford, is pronounced "Maudlin")
I knew "Fata Morgana" - but not that "morgan" meant a "privateer", though!
I had to check that with Anne B.
Where would we be without her!
Daughter has just texted to reassure us that they were not caught up in that "attack" near the National History Museum, where a car was driven into people on the pavement.
Luckily we had only just heard about it on the radio....so had not had long to worry!
We had known they were going to a museum today, but not which one.
It is a relief to hear that they are okay.
Fortunately from the little news I have heard about the incident, I do not think there were any serious injuries?
What time will Miss O arrive in Los Angeles?

Hello, Elle!
I had heard of Magdalene College, but it was the "Galen/physician" bit I did not know about.
Fata Morgana I had an inkling of, and Captain Morgan.
My News has 11 injured folk at the Museum.
Seems a lot for a car accident?
It will be around midnight when Miss O reaches California.
She is past halfway in her flight.
Lexi Thompson has just left Florida to fly to South Korea and that is a 14 hour trip, she says!
I am going to visit Miss O'Hara tomorrow morning.

Hi, Rusty!
It sounds as though initially the incident in South Kensington was being treated as a possible terrorist attack ...people being told to run.....and the nearby Tube station being evacuated.
I think now though it is being regarded as a traffic accident?
But they say the investigations are "ongoing".
At least no one was seriously hurt.
Life can be precarious.
That will be nice going to see Miss O'H......and maybe she will come with you - and /or big sis / cousins - to the Pine Cone again sometime soon!
I wonder how puppy will behave - hopefully, well, now she is on her new diet!

Hello, Elle,
This invitation was unexpected!
I prefer to have a bit more notice.
But I shall go anyway for around an hour.
Yes, wonder how the pup will be!
Will be interesting to see what they say about the new diet.

Hi elle
I don't know about the Oxford college, but Magdalene College Cambridge is definitely pronounced "Maudlin".

A friend of a friend was, there, and I was invited to a lunch party - the first time I ever drank Pimms, and it was mixed in four plastic dustbins (the decadent life!)

Hello, Chris!
Magdalen College, Oxford is definitely pronounced "Maudlin"....
I had always thought that Cambridge's College - of the same name but different spelling - was pronounced as "Mag-da leen"....
But I am obviously mistaken.
Thank you for setting me right!

Hi, Rusty!
It will be good to go visit!
You will enjoy it!
Does Miss O'Hara like playing board games or is she getting too old for that?
I lose track of ages.........
What will she be.......11, 12?
I have my two eldest grandsons coming for half term (the last week in October) so will have to think up some exciting activities!
I am reluctant to take them up to London with the various problems that keep emerging.
We have local museums I could take them to see........and of course many parks and commons to go for walks.

Hello, Elle!
I do not think they play board games.
She uses her phone and tablet a lot.
Most of the young ones are like that, I think.
I have been listening to "speeches".
By FDR, JFK, LBJ, Martin Luther King, etc.
Best though that I liked was Admiral William McRaven.
He gave a great speech at the University of Texas graduations.
Did you get any tips on the "shady grass"?

Hi, Rusty!
Oh, well, my "lot" are still at the board game stage!
Although the older boys do have tablets.
No phones as yet.
My ingenuity for fresh games is being taxed!
They are becoming quite interested in card games, though, so maybe we can tackle some of the simpler ones.
Rummy maybe? or Whist?
I do not know of Admiral Mc Raven, although maybe I should?
I haven't looked further into the grass situation........I shall try to remember it for tomorrow's "job".......
I need a coffee......I fancy a ginger biscuit, but we don't have any.......

Hello, Elle,
I had never heard of the Admiral, too.
Just happened across him when I was browsing.
Three card brag is a good card game?
But it is a gambling game, maybe you would disapprove?
I am well supplied with biscuits!
Mainly shortie and chocolate digestives.
But, I got a bread toaster today so I will have to learn how to work it.
I am sure it will be straightforward, though.
