I agree with greedykite et al - this is
not an enjoyable solve and life's too short – I probably have the 4 letters but it's done my head in. Giving up.

I make .puz files from the Genius every month for my own use. Should I post that somewhere for people?

I now have 3 of the four letters - if part of 21D is related to the first part of 24D, then I have the 4th letter and can make 1 word and one proper name out of them. Am I even close?

picked this up day after day, with no real progress.
have 2 maybe 3 letters but it is confusing.
If the letter-short cryptic words are real words,
( without the first letter), it might be easier, however it appears they are not.

21d and 24d are not in the same group
21d is in the H group
24d is in M group

21d 3 letter dord for stain reversed + 2 letter word for always
24d 3 letter common word for beer

dizoz - I think most people are sorted on this so won't mind me giving you the 4 groups : W H A M
M group : 8a, 14a, 17a, 13d, 3d, 24a, 24d
