OIC, ixion: I was looking at the wrong part!
Btw the fun's not over yet: when you enter online you're confronted with a space for 10a labelled "8"!
What would the world be like without our beloved Graudian..........................

Can't get 25 ac. By my calculations it needs to start with aa. I've already spent too long on this so a little help would be appreciated. ?a?i?m.

You seem to have an extra letter...it should be A?I?M...wordplay is 3 letter word for formula MI? backwards (recalled) around zero. Defn part at 22D

Hell's teeth! There's something wrong here. I thought it was axiom and 9ac should be house and it says in the clues (5) for each but there are six boxes for each on the grid. If the last of 9ac and first of 25ac were black it would work or have I completely lost the place here?

Mucked up slightly? The air is blue here (and not because the temperature is below freezing, which it is).

The cryptic bit of 8a goes with the defn in 13d, so if you can solve this one you'll have one of the 4 group letters.
1d rupture is the defn - look for a cryptic bit to go with this one for another group.
Remember the cryptic bit in each clue omits the first letter, but you do know the number of letters in the answer
