Of course, chrise: I forgot I tumbled to that myself after wondering how the 4-letter drink could be described as soft (though there are much harder ones, of course)!
Any more you need? I'm still around if nec.!

GK, thanks very much for the hints - albeit I was only looking for one in each corner just to get me started again.

Hopefully your hint for 17d will help me to complete that grid. TUC - are they all union men? :)

Hi again GK
A hint for 1ac or 1dn in the Foreign Legion would be much appreciated!

Also, maybe, a hint for 17dn in the Unveiled contingent, if you have it, please?

Hi chrise, sorry to butt in, but one good turn deserves another

1a - is a charade - the first part being a synonym for 'be overly obsessive' (4) you should be able to get the answer from that

Thanks RE - got it from that.

Is the definition a bit loose?

Chris: for 1d I can only partly explain Aristo's thinking ---
Def. "cave in" (verb);kind of syn. for "cool" dropping abb for temp.,before it presumably abb. for "actually", after it 1st letter of "shift",alternative abb. for AD at end (didn't know myself) ---yes, I think that's his reasoning (I see more now than when I began explaining!!!).

Thanks GK. With your and RE's help I have now finished the Foreign Legion, though some I'm not clear about the parsing.

27 and 29a, 17 and 18dn in the Unveiled Contingent remain, as well as several of the boudoir. Could I have a hint for the (j) gatekeeper please? I have ??R???R - is that correct?

Yoohoo. Just happened to pop in (was driving by). Re my 1d: AC=cool setting (as on temperature control device- at least over here!), actually undergoing temperature drop=a word for actually (Chambers) minus T. All else as GK says.
