lvs, I think by 'put away' etc ixion means it's hidden in the text of the clue.

sorry livs, I misspelled your name. ixion has been a great help to me, but as you say, sometimes s/he is more cryptic than the setter - which is as it should be as we only want hints. Ever thought about setting crosswords yourself ixion?

Amazing! I started late, having had a replacement hip operation on August the first. I now have three or four to do (plus reversing or not reversing some of the answers) and I still have no idea what the "operator" is. I had his name as my first or second solved clue, but Google doesn't throw anything up easily. OK, let's keep on with it.

OK. Almost there. I see it's a quotation, not an instruction for each word.
