21D is a tree(and it's gum)...

Never used this forum before but having worked through all this crossword I am totally stuck on 14d. Help please.

14D is one of the better clues...the nag isn't a horse.

Have tried every nag I can think of! Just think maybe have error somewhere across it. Ending in i*pe at the moment!

Letters in place are correct

ixion, I have the name of a herb or tree which gum ammoniac comes from - is that the answer, because it messes up 25A, which by my answer needs an 'A' as the second/fifth letter when written backwards, but with the gum answer gets an 'E' in that position (where 25A crosses 21D).

lynbejack, 14D ...*i*pe - the *i* is a not very up-to-date way of saying 'up-to-date'.

Your "A" in 25ac is correct - 21D the answer has been locked up(put away)

Then I'm completely confused because gum ammoniac comes from Dorema ammoniacum which is apparently not the answer.

At the moment I have

21D = **A*O*

and you said

Sorry, but I just don't understand your clues any more than I understand Picaroon's. But thanks for trying.
