Btw, can't see these double solutions people are talking of for 6d and 7d...or any clue.

Still stuck on 26a & 17d, the former of which seems to start with "n" (with a definite "s" as the penultimate letter), and the latter with "i". Any hints out there...please?

Given enough time you'll get 26ac. Then the other one may come to you.

And isn't the foreign money (25ac) spelled incorrectly?

Ok, the currency is speeled correctly. But it means I got the wrong currency, leading to the wrong cryptic answer, but still leading to the correct grid entry.

The rest of you gave up presumably?

After a great struggle I think I have just two left to solve (15D and 25A). I have also to decide which transmutation should be entered at 21D.
For 15 I have R_S_ _ _ E _ and for 25A I have _ _ _ _ _ R although I think I’ve narrowed down the second letter to a U,R, or an I. Am I correct with these?
It’s been over a week since I made any progress so any hint or help would be greatly appreciated.

For 15dn, your starting position is a definition meaning charged in the legal sense. The first 2 letters, which can be interpreted as "while", are transmuted. You have one of the letters already, and can probably guess the 2nd. The "hired" part is quite a broad usage. In 25ac, stick with u for your second letter. That should also clear up the transmutation in 21dn.

Many thanks for the help peterm. I think I've solved the down clues now. Just 25A to crack! IMO this is the trickiest Genius yet!
