Not guilty, dear madam. I'm a sedentary Devonian - which I realise sounds like a geological stratum laid down quite a few years back. Not that far adrift, maybe. My enjoyment of Rioja is largely linked to watching my poor doctor's face...

helen scrobe:

Hi Robtherich, are you, by chance, the Scots Robbie who hiked the Basque country in the Summer of 1986?, if so, your fondness for Rioja was ledgendary then.

Also, any chance of getting my 20 euro back?

Damn, lost some more years somewhere, I though we didn't have Euros until 1995.

Oh well, just a thought, actually, I only gave him 20 pesetas, but he would never have remembered, still, if you are out there Robbie, (still singing Bonnie Mary of Argyle) it was worth it!

John (from Planet Cleverclogs): How do you get italics and bold into your offerings? Try as I might...

I pretty sure Spain went Euro in 2000, you will (no doubt) correct me if I'm wrong. You still don't have them on craggy island though.

Hi Helen,

The mind boggles as to what you received for 20 pesetas that was "worth it" and I know I am old and wrinkly, but wasn't 2000 after 1986.

RobTheRich (who's second name must be Hood), you just have to put in simple HTML tags. For italics its <+i+>italicised text<+/+i+> and for bold it's <+b+>bold text<+/+b+> with all the plus signs removed! I had to put the plus signs in so that your browser wont interpret them as HTML. You can also put in image and anchor tags to get pictures and links, but that's in lesson 2!

my threads seem to be a source of annoyance to you John, rest assured I shall refrain in future, and yes, I am aware that 2000 is after 1986, but thanks for pointing it out, your point escapes me, I now hand this site back to you and hope you continue to be the only one with anything worth saying.

Helen

Know what you you mean re malicious responses, 'though John from A is "normally" OK. I was, for a short, a regular contributer but was rather disheartened by some of the more arrogant contributers, so decided to withdraw.

I note, with some regret, shared, I believe, with many others, that campanilla, good old campo, has ceased to contribute. A major loss to this and any website.

I thought I would share this little story from today's Diary in The Herald. It's very typical of Glasgow humour.

BAD weather meant a few bumpy landings at Heathrow this week, particularly one flight from JFK. A little Glasgow granny had to register her discontent to the rather sheepish pilot as he stood alongside the flight crew.

“Did you land the plane, son” she asked.

“Yes ma’am.”

“Thank God for that,” she said, “I thought we’d been shot down.”
