I don't know what is wrong with me today but I can't get my head around many of the clues. Is it only me or anyone else struggling. Any "hints".

if you give a few clues/number of letters in the answers I am sure someone will be able to help

26a is the subject of the xword - word for retail outlets round R(reading) + another word for rent (not the tear defn)

shropshire shops r hire

am afraid nos of the answers are guesswork

Iagree you will need an atlas. 16 across is the most obscure place.

16A is so obscure we can't find it - any more clues?

So Het, did you finish? I'm still struggling but think I have all the place names. {I live in Shropshire!] 16a is Prees P for power then seer backwards. I'd appreciate 1ac. if anyone's out there.
