Thanks JS

If 20A can be considered one of the "special" type then I guess 4D is the other one I didn't include - I suppose these do conform with the "life-changing"/FILE example given rather than the first two explicitly defining examples which apply to the other 12.

Sorry A!(again)

ixion
thanks for posting the address.
4d is the last clue to trouble me(im 100% sure i have the right answer but not 100% sure of the wordplay, which is unusual for Araucaria).
quite a good puzzle overall.

sudokulover, i can see that bit,i guess i mean that i find the clue a bit sloppy rather than i don't get it.
it's the(not sic)at the end which i don't like-isn't it a double negative or something? (not(not my mistake)).
thanks for help.

In Scots Gaelic 'Mac' is son of, in Welsh it is 'ap.'

Good afternoon, to you folks, it looks like it's been handled in my sleep (8:45 am here).

ixion mentioned 12? It has to be Willow. It can't be Billow because 3D can't be Yellow because of 21D.

But there's no 28..

But now I'm off for my walk in High Park and Sat morning shopping. Looks like this one is wrapped up then?

Ooops, one more thing. If 20A is Villager, which it must be (VIL(E)+LAGER)... in what way is a villager a pirate?
