Well i was in the mood for that clearly. Only had to word search 2. Seems I'm generally more accepting than many when it comes to definitions because whilst I agree with the comments my criteria is "well that's clearly the intended answer, great, next!"

Came here to find out about pretentious but I see it now.

8d my favourite. Very neat.

Ah from the best comedy series ever imho. John Cleese’s best work. And Connie Booth too. Not to mention the wonder that is Sybil Fawlty, and Manuel. We may be of a similar age Bren! Herds of wildebeest thundering majestically across the plain. I have watched every gem of an episode so often I can quote bits by heart. Back to the crossword, I quite enjoyed it, but I am easily pleased. If I can get the answers and parse most of them and some make me laugh or groan I am happy. Plus the sun is out. Happy Sunday.

Hi Bowergirl,

I couldn't agree more. I was actually watching the Wedding Party episode this morning... sort of. It was an American couple who make those 'reaction videos' that are popular on YouTube now. They're trying to gen up on British culture and so asked people to vote on the best British comedies and comedians and FT came out on top. It was actually great fun watching their reaction, especially the woman - she was in hysterics from start to finish;-)

Just under half of this was a write-in and then it got really tough! I agree with comments about the dodgy definitions of 10a and 18d. I suppose 18d is referring to 'most large' in the sense of a large sum of money, but it's very tenuous, imo. It would have worked just as well with 'most neat' as the definition instead. Why be so obscure?!! 10a was an even worse offender, and it wasn't even a well constructed clue.

Although the answer was obvious from the clue, I also don't really get the definition of 26a. Why does the answer mean 'say'?

Thank you to Brenden for helping me make sense of 25a. And I agree with him that the word 'what' spoiled the surface of 17a, which was otherwise a great clue - so that's just a minor quibble.

Someone upthread was questioning the definition in 23a. I think it's because it's something you might wear on your thumb when performing a certain activity (more commonly, but not exclusively, performed by women) It still doesn't really work as a clue for me though.

Despite the quibbles though, there was lots to enjoy. I think (and I never thought I'd ever say this) that the spoonerism was my COD!
Thanks Everyman.
