Incidentally, re 10a, I read it the same way as Fitzrover - a word for sticks, or more likely twigs (woven together), around 'one'.

Phil, in 10a the first word indicates what has happened to the second word "taste".

10a - Thanks Phil, thank Fitzrover,

I see what you both mean but, again, think it's a very loose definition. You sum it up Phil when you elaborate by saying that it's 'sticks or twigs when "woven together" and I agree - but the clue doesn't say any of that... just "sticks"!

Lucertola@9 this took me longer than yesterday's prize but I put that down to the struggle I had with the clues already mentioned in the thread which had rather loose definitions rather than being composed of difficult wordplay. I also made a couple of stupid spelling mistakes which messed up my crossers which didn't help.

I'm not usually in on Sunday mornings to attempt the Everyman, and I'll make a point of not bothering in future. I though this was awful - I have complaints of various sorts against eleven of the clues. I won't waste mine (or your) time by listing them.

You all seem a bit grumpy today. It must be the clocks going forward ๐Ÿ˜‚
Brendan, you will have seen that word for pretentious in one of my puzzles on this site, though admittedly it was a while ago now.

Largely in tune with the way Everyman is thinking this week. However there are a couple of solutions that I canโ€™t fully work out. Now the is crossword complete - the day is mine. And a beautiful day it is, despite the loss of an hour.

Hi Jono,

It's funny you mention the tone of the posts today. When I checking mine prior to posting, I remember thinking, "Bren mate, you're coming across like a bear with a sore head - chill out"... but, obviously I didn't๐Ÿ˜‚

That word for 'pretentious' does ring a very vague and distant bell, but I could be imagining it. I am a bit out of sorts this morning, as you can probably tell:-)

Finished, but agree with some of the objections especially 18d.
Can't understand 23a at all though only one word fits. Adjacent to a finger??
COD 20a and 3a, once I'd seen 'axes' as something other than chopping tools!
Like Brendan's choice of wine at 19a!
