I’d love a little hint (or large!) for 24A please. I’m missing the unchecked letter but can’t make anything of the clue other than “the elderly.”

Also, am I right in thinking the 2nd of the things we need to highlight is not quite in a straight line, thus enabling the 1st thing to be “in” it?

JWF, re 24a. Def. is 'Ed's become'. A slang word for 'irritated' (3), (often followed by 'at'), with extra letter ... in 'the elderly'.
Yes, one of the highlighted items is a distinctive shape.

Thank you, not sure on ”Ed’s become” but if it’s a word often followed by ‘At’ I’m at least confident the unchecked letter is what I expected :)

JWF, just to clarify ... it's the 3-letter component of the wordplay which is often followed by 'at', not the definition. The grid entry is unusual, but is in Chambers.

Thanks mattrom, I’d decided “Ed” was someone referred to by his surname elsewhere in the clues before I entered my answer, so I think I got it. I’ve posted it now so fingers crossed…
