Just finished, but includes some guesses.

23d is a hidden up the wrong way, but I don't know what it means.
25ac is a backwards word for stick followed by t for teachers head, meanung "pass".

I can't see the extra letter in 27ac, but am happy with my answer.
1ac should be two words
22ac I've never come across that word for nuts before
11ac was anew word for me and 9d a strange formation
Can't parse 6ac, but see it is specialist word I can't be bothered to look up.
Can't parse all of 5d, 18d,19d, 23d.

LOI was 23d. CODs some very elegant and amusing clues including 14ac, 21ac, 26ac, and 8d.
Can we have an easier one next week please.

Finished, with a little help from here and several uses of the Crossword Solver.

FOI 12a, LOI 2d, after seeing a note here about halving a letter and getting the crosser from 2nd-to-last 10a.

COD: perhaps one of the two impressive giant anagrams, 9d or 17a.

13a parses 2 (what - reversed), 1, 4

Hi Rosencrantz,

13a - 2 letter "what" reversed/'about' + single letter "institute" + 4 letter "sense"

@roof, I think it's usually beech nuts specifically, which pigs eat under the trees, as in "beech ****".

@roof, in 27a the missing letter is for "side", as in a choice of that one or "L".

@roof, your parsing problems:
5d: 1, 1 for quiet, 2 for pub, all inside 3 for "no mistake"
18d: 6 letter "observe" is "cycled", followed by last of "games"
19d: 4-letter "soon" (usually in phrase "see you ****", in my usage) surrounds 2 letters climbing, then 1-letter abbreviation
23d, hidden backwards, and a Muse with 9

Hope that helps clarify, if you come back to read this.

First time I've been able to offer anything, as it's often Thursday by the time I finish!

What are these "letter tiles" icons I see embedded in forum replies, have I missed something? They seem to have appeared recently.
