6a is in Chambers as US slang but it Ive seen more often with a fifth letter (maybe because there’s Netflix series of that name). And I’ve that clue before with the same wordplay.
3d can both mean from here and not from here, hence yes and no.

Re. 6a, the answer, when reversed, is an old measure of weight in the fishing industry, thus the catch.

6a “catch” refers to fishing - reversed

I found the 6a clue in the Independent from last October. The puzzle is by Tyrus… aka Vlad!

re 6a, I think 'catch' is also doing duty as a homophone indicator, hence the question mark to allow for a possible British interpretation of the definition but with a different spelling

Vlad is one of my favourite compilers. I always think of him as harsh but fair. But could someone give me a hint as to the parsing of 1a. There are two obvious answers from my crossers but can't see how to arrive at either.

Hi Rocky,
1a is a six letter anagram, inside of which (barring) two letters for Vlad and a single letter.

Thanks jono, cheshirejohn and ianwil: I went completely wrong with 6a, and thought it a dodgy clue. Now I know it’s something I would never have got!

Grateful to have my English father in the house today, as he was able to confirm the correct pronunciation for 15d. Some tricky stuff here today, as one would expect from Vlad. 22d has some very parsing for an old favourite.
