All done and dusted but can someone cleverly hint at a parse for1 down without giving the game away?

Hypotheses, in1d., the books are biblical, the grandchild is Scots, and 'had' is abbreviated.

Thanks for that. However, the accepted style on this forum is not simply give the solution but to guide the enquirer as to how the clue is parsed.

If the poster had asked for hints I would have given some. Sadly I`m a very slow, one-finger trypist - many is the time I`ve been beaten to the draw by the expert solvers on this excellent forum. That is the reason my contributions are deliberately kept short - unlike this one!

It depends on the puzzle. Answers on Listener threads are verboten, but acceptable on others. The poster should make clear whether answers or hints are being requested.
My personal opinion is not to give answers on Prize puzzles, but I know this is controversial - see the Posting Guidelines!
