Great puzzle from hedge-sparrow. I liked the way theme was gradually revealed and fed back into solving clues and mutating entries without having to know the phrases.

I'm always pleased to see a Hedge-sparrow puzzle.
Finally done, but I can't see the parsing for 13d. I know the definition and the entry.

Oh dear, Quisling, I'm afraid I'm none the wiser. I can see a couple of possibilities from your reply, but can't relate them to my entry. Just to check, it starts with M.

Sorry, Mattrom, I’m going mad. I parsed a completely different clue for you. Please forgive me. Add the third word of the clue to the first three letters of your answer, and then append the “a”

The first part of my parsing gives the witch doctor, and the rest the answer. Sorry for the confusion

A very sensible approach! And an unusual word. I was lucky I came across it once before, so it rang a distant bell.

I should add I thought this was marvellous. In my early jousts with Hedge-Sparrow I found his themes quite narrow, but this was a joy. Terrific clueing, no word search. Bravo!

My thanks also to Hedge-sparrow. Others of my vintage may recall “You did right to send the chickpeas to Memphis” as something in a similar vein….
