Got it now. Surprising it's not in Bradfords.

I thought that, but as it does appear in longer versions in Bradfords, I googled the word and it was confirmed.

Thanks to Lionheart - I had a good time completing the grid and identifying the theme.

As is too often the case the endgame has me totally baffled so I will leave it to those cleverer than me. Ho hum.

I was initially baffled as well dim, but if you can find the thematic material it is solvable and is a very neat finale.

One little loose end for me with 9d. Most of it makes sense, but as far as I can see the first four letters of the answer must equate to 'runner' in the clue. If so, why is that?

Quiz, it's a proper noun, the name of one of the usual crossword "runners"

Lumen, in 26d. "Begin" is the name of a person, but no clash in the entry.

Can I get a hint on 16ac please?

I have 3 out of 6 clashes and am preparing for a full and long stare at the grid but that's the only one I can't get at the moment.
