24 - "firm" is the middle 4 letters - the outside 2 letters need to be 3 to make up the "discs"

Thanks Propero. I realize now I had the additional letters for 23A and 24A muddled. Which was causing some confusion.

Oldwolfie, think of a person's name which could precede 'Blunt'

Oh, thanks very much! I had tried two names (J.... and A.......) but failed to persevere (tut). Got it now.

I'm having trouble making those middle four letters correspond to 'firm'. Is it a rather obscure connection or must I be on the wrong track?

Hi Castafore,

The "firm" is a very common 4 letter synonym, and that goes inside 3 letter "discs" minus extra letter - definition is "leaves" (edible ones)
