Cruncher, are you only looking at primitive triples? If so that could be your problem

hi cruncher - there are pairs of triples that differ by value of c.

if x, y,z is a solution then so is ax, ay, az for any integer a.

Turns out I had totally misremembered what I was sure I knew from O level maths. A salutary lesson!

correcting my prior post - a doesnt have to be an integer (clearly my maths degree was too long ago)!

I shelved this yesterday as I had the first 35 clues all sorted and then hit a snag. I returned this morning and found that I hadn't made a mistake I identifying the numbers but that my speadsheet for 13 down was wrong (it had the wrong value for N)!! All finished and a clever puzzle. I didn't think that there was a lot of number crunching but filling in the border took a lot of faffing around.
