Here are some of the more common abbreviations that you’ll see (there are more)…

FOI - First One In
LOI - Last One In
COD - Clue Of (the) Day
PDM - Penny Drop Moment
DBE - Definition By Example
BRB - Big Red Book (Chambers)

Hi Fernie
Just the fact that such a familiar name (plus an 's') contains the fodder for that word. Setters who can spot that sort of thing, and include it in a clue with an elegant surface, always impress me. Picaroon seems to be especially adept at it.

Re the Quiptic, my point was not that it was difficult (it was indeed straightforward as Quiptics should be, indeed if anything almost too easy) but that there were so many lovely clues including some excellent anagrams. Pretty sure that that was Phil’s point too.

Thanks both. Tbh I just popped into it, for that one clue, so I've decontextualised it. I agree that puzzle category can be very straightforward
