An enjoyable puzzle from Ifor. Some 'foot in the door' clues, and others quite testing.
I don't see the word play for 35a, though I have the answer.
H1982, the letter strings are names as they appear, not anagrammed.
quisling - I must be very dim today. The answer to 2A, surely an anagram, doesn't contain the final letter of the character I need to put there (letters 1,3 and 5 check, so I'm happy that he goes there). What have I failed to see?
Cockie, 2a is an anagram, as you say. The last letter of the answer is not part of the letter string which needs to be reordered, but the other seven can be rearranged to form the character. You should have letters 1, 3, 5 and 7 from the crossing answers
Oddly, in the film, the character in 2A is *****D. Very misleading. I see the correct spelling is given in other - presumably primary - sources. Still don't know the last bit though.
I never found that misleading reference, fortunately. Look in the grid for a synonym of the first noun in the phrase spelt by the removed letters, and replace it
